THE 2021 Legal Year will be officially launched at the High Court this morning.
This followed the end of the courts’ vacation.
The High Court had gone on a vacation during the festive season last month and is now ready to resume its normal business hours and services.
During the vacation, the high court’s registry office only opened for an hour in the morning and another hour in the afternoon.
Hearings of both criminal and civil matters were also halted except for urgent matters.
A ceremonial sitting to officiate the legal opening year will be held this morning at the High Court.
This year’s event will exclude the usual inspection of the Guard of Honour due to the current state of Public Emergency (SOPE).
This was normally the highlight in past legal year opening ceremony, where the event usually starts with Chief Justice Sir Albert Palmer inspecting the Guard of Honour from the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force outside of High Courtroom one.
This year’s program will only include speeches from the Attorney General, the President of the Solomon Islands Bar Association, and a response from Sir Albert inside the high courtroom one.
