WEIGHTLIFTING and Rugby 7s have completed their respective competitions for the National Secondary School Games (NSSG) on Friday.
For weightlifting, 24 student athletes were awarded medals for the eight weight categories they competed in.
The medal presentation was supported with the presence of the Attorney General , John Muria Jr, SSPM Albert Kabui, NOCSI president Martin Rara, Weightlifting president Fujiyama and NSSG Committee Chairman Karl Kuper.
According to the country’s top female weightlifter Jenly Wini, student weightlifters have done well in the weightlifting competition.
Ms Wini said despite most being new to weightlifting the student athletes have shown great improvement, a positive sign for 2023.
“Most of them have done really well and I am looking forward to seeing them during Solomon Games in November.
“Competing in the Solomon Games is a step up and a good start for 2023,” Wini said.
More than 20 student athletes, both boys and girls competed in the weightlifting tournament.
Rugby 7s also completed their competition following the finals of the men’s category yesterday.
Koloale School sealed victory as the NSSG Rugby 7s champions after defeating King George VI 21-5.
St Josephs Tenaru finished third after they defeated Niu Pelesi 5-0 from a sudden death try after both teams were locked at nil all after fulltime.
