Member of Parliament (MP) for East Kwaio says he decided not to resign from the Democratic Coalition for Change Government (DGGA) because he was democratically elected.
He issued the explanation to clarify to the public why he decided to remain with the government despite calls for him to resign last month following the unrest.
“I decided to remain with the government because I was democratically elected.
“For you to tell me to resign under duress, I cannot,” he said.
Sofu said he also consulted his people in East Kwaio before making the decision.
Sofu was in East Kwaio during the unrest to bury his brother and former MP for West Kwaio Titus Fika.
