SHIPS that recently called off their services to Malaita Province will have their business licenses canceled for failing to provide reliable shipping services to the people of Malaita.
For the past three weeks, traveling passengers between Honiara and Auki have experienced difficulties due to the fact that some ships called off their services.
Shipping services between Honiara and Auki reached a record low a week before the burning and looting in Honiara.
After the burning of Honiara which many blame it on Malaitans, most ships that serve the Honiara –Auki route have halted their operation leaving traveling passengers between Auki and Honiara in great frustration.
The halting of shipping service also left businesses and market vendors who utilized the reliable shipping between Honiara and Malaita to their advantage stranded resulting in loss of income opportunities.
Speaking to this paper in an interview on Wednesday, Premier Daniel Suidani said the Malaita Province Government will be taking action on ships that failed to deliver the much needed shipping service to the province.
Premier Suidani said some shipping services had failed Malaita Province big time in the past weeks.
He said those shipping services will have their business licenses canceled to allow only reliable shipping services to operate the Honiara-Auki route.
The premier said an urgent meeting will be held soon to action the plan where he said the people of Malaita need reliable shipping service to serve its people.
This week only the Ocean Joy ship serves the Honiara- Auki route.
By the look of things, ships owned by people from other provinces will have their license canceled while only ships owned by Malaitans will continue to operate to avoid repetition of the current situation.
