THE ignorance and usage of Tear gas to disperse the public protest against the Prime Minister has increased the frustration which led the protesters to go into the extent of looting and burning down of properties in Honiara, few weeks ago.
An observer and Taki House of chief representative Gordon Mae told Solomon Star Auki of this, after observing the unrest.
Mr. Mae said the protest started very calm calling on the prime minister to step down. However the Prime minister turns to ignore the call which resulted in the unrest.
He said if the prime Minister or any parliamentarian came out publicly and talk to the protestor in a respectable way, there will be no such destruction caused to properties.
“If the prime minister then come out and address the protestors in respectable manner, the looting and burning will not happen.”
“These people have their democratic rights and when they expressed their rights, it is the responsibility of the leader to come out and talk to them”
He believes that the protestors have expressed their democratic rights.
Mae pointed that peaceful protest held in Auki against the motion of no confident motion on Premier Danial Suidani is a good example.
The mover of the motion has come out publicly and talked to them in a respectable way which caused no distraction.
He said now that the situation in Honiara is slowly returning to normalcy, it’s time that leaders come out and address the people in a more respectable manner.
