MALAITA Provincial Premier, Daniel Suidani says there is no lawlessness in Auki and that the provincial capital is very peaceful.
He then commended Auki police for a job well done in maintaining law and order in the provincial capital.
Speaking to Solomon Star Auki, Premier Suidani said the fact that only 11 arrests were made during the festive session operation should speak volumes of law abiding citizens in Malaita.
“Let’s not forget the commitment of Auki police in dealing with law and order in Malaita,” he added.
The Premier said the incident that took place in Auki a week ago when three ex –militants were apprehended by members of the public is an isolated incident.
“The incident was already resolved the same day at the Auki police station. Both parties that are involved also shook hands and made peace,” he stated.
He said if the incident alone is the reason for more Police deployment to Auki, then this does not add up at all.
“Auki remains one of the most peaceful towns in Solomon Islands with law abiding citizens,” he insists.
The Premier said the presence of the Patrol Boat in Auki only adds more fear to the Malaita public.
“People should feel safe under police protection, but what has transpired since the arrival of the Patrol Boat in Auki over the weekend is something else as people live in fear and are intimidated by the presence of the Patrol Boat.”
While the Premier appreciated the presence of the Patrol Boat in Auki to maintain law and order, he said it is important for police to listen to the wishes of the people.
He said working against the wishes of the people has proven to be wrong in the past and police should listen and act in the best interest of the people moving forward.
