The Honiara Emergency Zone will go into a four-day lock down as of tomorrow – Tuesday 6pm up until Saturday 6pm.
This was announced by Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare in a special nation-wide address this afternoon.
He said the lockdown is to ensure the spread of COVID is contained and contact tracing can be done.
Not only that but to allow the vaccination teams to conduct jabn in some of the hotspots areas in the city.
He said the virus has spread and therefore its necessary to impose a lock down.
PM Sogavare during the lockdown, the Oversight committee will review the lockdown period and will assess whether there’s a need to extend the lockdown.
“This is important because if you move, the virus moves,” he said.
He said government will also support communities with the provision of ensuring food is made available to communities.
In his address today, he also said 7 crews of LC Nusatupe had contracted the virus and may have infected some passengers that dropped off at Rukutu village in Marovo, Western Province.
The vessel has been recalled.
Prime Minister Sogavare then encourages members of the public to get vaccinated soon.
