MORE than 50 nurses and doctors who are infected with COVID-19 at the National Referral Hospital (NRH) have stand-down.
NRH Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Dr George Malefoasi said this has resulted in staff shortage at the NRH.
Dr Malefoasi was speaking during Sunday’s Radio Talk-Back Show.
He said apart from staff shortage other key challenges facing the NRH now are clinical management of COVID-19 and the increasing number of staff infected with COVID-19.
He said the NRH is also working hard to protect patients and guardians in the hospital right now from the virus.
He said since the lockdown the hospital has reorganised staff shifts for doctors and nurses and identify the virus hotspots in the hospital as well as identifying the services and staff affected.
“Now slowly data started to shows that we understand which location are hotspot and which services are affected and which staff are affected.
“It also gives us the mechanism of zoning the hospital and work out how to manage sick patient,” he said.
