SINCE the COVID outbreak in the country early January, the 300 inmates at the Rove Central Correctional Centre (RCCC) in Honiara remains COVID-free thanks to the hard work of the CSSI management and staff.
A statement issued by CSSI Media Unit said this is a significant achievement for RCCC to share in the midst of the pandemic.
“As recently reported, RCCC is currently COVID-19 free since the community transmission was declared in the country in early January.”
The RCCC Commandant Supt Derick Tenai assured family members, spouses, children and relatives of inmates and nation as a whole, of the significant status of the centre.
“There are more than 300 inmates at the centre that are fully vaccinated but there are few inmates who have received their first jab and very soon to get their second jab,” he said.
According to Commandant Tenai, so far there are no positive cases of COVID-19 recorded in the centre.
He said swabbing was collected from two new inmates on Monday and both results were negative.
“As part of the obligation and responsibility to four inmates, further swabbing will be carried out to inmates when the Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) kits are available.
“The centre’s isolation facility for inmates is in place should there are positive cases of COVID-19,” Commandant Tenai said.
