A WORKING committee responsible for securing a cemetery site for Honiara City is continuing in search of a grave site.
The Ministry of Lands, Housing & Survey Commissioner, and Ministry of Home Affairs Permanent Secretary both confirmed this during a press conference the Oversight Committee had with the media, Thursday.
The Ministry of Lands, Housing & Survey Commissioner Mr. Allen McNeil confirmed the Betikama offer that was made by a registered landowner was no longer reasonable.
“Originally, it looks like a genuine offer, a free offer, but everything was changed. After conditions came up we all agree that this is not reasonable anymore,” Mr. McNeil said.
However, he said the working committee is seriously looking at another government owned land, and discussions on that is done internally.
Also he said they need to discuss with Guadalcanal Province, because it is very important.
“We are not idols, and not sitting back waiting or hoping for someone to come forward.
“We been very busy and we are committed to finding a new site for a cemetery, we know this is urgent. We really need to find a new site and we are working very fast and putting all of our resources into this,” Mr. McNeil said.
Meanwhile, Ministry of Home Affairs Permanent Secretary Jeffrey Sade Deve said the working committee was set up upon instructions given by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) during the Covid-19 community transmission outbreak.
