SOLOMON Islands on Monday recorded 95 new COVID-19 positive cases to bring the country’s total number of cases to date to 8150.
Speaking during his daily update on the COVID-19 situation in the country last night, Minister of Health and Medical Services Dr Culwick Togamana said of the 95 positive cases, 19 are from Guadalcanal Province, 29 Central Islands, 29 Western Province, 11 Honiara, four from Makira Province, two from Choiseul Province and one from Malaita Province.
Dr Togamana said another 29 positives that were collected in the past days and weeks were also registered and reported at midday yesterday.
He said of these 29 previous positive COVID-19 cases, 18 are from Guadalcanal Province and 11 from Malaita Province.
“One hundred and twenty four when combined brings the new total of positive cases to 8150 for Solomon Islands,” the Minister said.
In terms of deaths, Dr Togamana said the country’s total COVID-19 related deaths as of midday yesterday stands at 118.
In his brief update on the COVID-19 situation for some of the provinces, he said Malaita Province total number of COVID-19 positive cases stands at 937 with 19 deaths, Guadalcanal Province 427 cases and 17 deaths, Choiseul Province 225 cases and no death and Makira Province 367 cases and one death.
He said data from the other provinces are still to be obtained.
Meanwhile, the Minister said as of this week he will only provide updates on the COVID-19 situation in the country on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
“This is to allow some more time and careful synthesis of COVID-19 data from our provinces and to ease pressure on our already hard working health teams on the ground who are focusing on containing and managing community transmission situation in our rural communities where the majority of our people lives,” Dr Togamana said.
