Malaita Alliance for Rural Advancement (MARA) government has earmarked a group of advisors to compile what they call “the Malaita People log of claims” to be submitted to the national government.
This was stated by Malaita Province Premier Daniel Suidani in his opening speech of the 2022/2023 budget meeting which is currently underway in Auki.
He said Mr Suidani said the ‘Malaita People log of claims’ will be formally submitted to the national government for consideration.
He said the ‘claims’ is part of its government working to address differences.
“We know that the issue surrounding the switch has been properly resolved, although we accept the government’s decision. While China is now in the Solomon Islands, it can focus on other provinces but not Malaita province for now.
“In working to address our difference, my government has earmarked a team of advisors to compile what is called ‘the Malaita Province People log of claim’ that will be formally submitted to the national government for consideration,” the premier said.
He said as a responsible government they want to give people some assurance that they will look into their grievances or help to channel to responsible authority.
“As a responsible government we want to give our people some assurance that, yes, we will look into your grievances or help to channel to responsible authority,” he said.
However, he further stated that measures are taken to deal with the level of misinformation and misunderstanding between the two governments.
“For example, the national government seems to hold the view that M4D is part of the MARA government which in fact it is not.
“M4D is a group established as Malaita People’s power. It is a group established to pressure governments to be honest and truthful when addressing Malaita Province development issue,” the premier said
He added that a clear example is when M4D organised programs and events that did not receive a single cent or dollar from the MARA government.
