THE visiting UK Emergency Medical Team has successfully conducted an ABCDE Assessment & ACLS – Defibrillator training for frontline health workers at the Gizo hospital in Western Province recently.
A statement from the UK Solomon Islands Office said the team is now into seven weeks of deployment in the country and have been training.
During their stay in the country, they have provided for frontline health workers in Malaita and Western Provinces.
The team had provided training and mentorship sessions for frontline health workers of Atoifi and Kilu’ufi hospitals in Malaita Province.
“They have been working with frontline health workers to respond to COVID-19 more, especially getting the health facilities prepared for subsequent waves of the global pandemic,” the statement said yesterday.
The five member team is part of the World Health Organization (WHO) Emergency Response.
They visited Western Province last week.
Western Provincial Health Emergency Operation Centre (PHEOC) Chairman, Dr. Michael Buin last week said the purpose of this deployment was to provide Technical Assistance and Capacity Building support to the country’s health system including the two provinces.
“This is to adequately manage the surge COVID -19 cases, the capacity within these facilities to have capacity to differentiate between severely/critical ill patients,” he said.
He said Gizo and Kilufi hospitals benefited from the visit following an AUSMAT assessment last month.Atoifi in East Malaita and Taro in Choiseul Island also benefited from the team’s visit.
