A GOOD number of teachers and students who have spent their holiday in Western Province since December have started returning to Honiara this week.
This is to prepare for the start of the 2022 academic year.
Government through the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD) on Monday announced that all schools will reopen from May 23rd.
Classes proper for secondary schools and rural training centres will commence a week later – Monday 30th May.
Two weeks later all primary schools are expected to proceed with classes, three weeks later all Early Childhood Education (ECE) centres will resume classes.
Most schools closed their doors for five months following the COVID-19 outbreak in early January.
Since then most of the teachers and students continue to enjoy their long break.
This week only MV Fair Glory operates a service to all Western Provincial ports.
The trip came just in time as the ministry announced the start of the academic year.
As a result many of the teachers and students working and studying in Honiara-based schools quickly boarded the vessel on Tuesday.
Some of the teachers and students dropped off at Marovo.
More teachers and students are expected to travel next week back to Honiara if MV Fair Glory makes another trip on Sunday.
