HONIARA City Council has issued a call to Honiara residents to repatriate the bodies of deceased family members to their home villages for burial.
The call follows the government’s lifting of restrictions on movements of people in and out of Honiara Emergency Zone due to Covid-19.
The City Clerk Justus Denni said the call is necessitated by the fact that the Kola Ridge Cemetery is now full and that land for new cemetery is still to be fully secured and prepared.
“There is now no restriction for ships, airplanes or vehicles to transport any dead body out from Honiara so we are kindly asking families and relatives to repatriate the body of any deceased family member or relative back to their home village,” Mr Denni said.
Meanwhile, the Working Committee for the new cemetery land is now discussing a Master Plan for the new site.
