THE European Union, long been a major development partner in Solomon Islands’ development, is due to announce a multi-million-dollar project aimed at improving service-delivery and strengthening government capacities to support people-centered development.
EU’s Ambassador to Solomon Islands and the Pacific, His Excellency, Sujiro Seam, is due to announce the new funding arrangement when he launches the project in Honiara later this week.
The funding will cover the 2022-2025 financial year and would be channeled through the Provincial Governance and Service Delivery project.
The EU, UNDP and UNICEF will work closely with the Solomon Islands Government at national and local levels to upgrade policy and legal frameworks to advance people-centered, accountable and effective decentralisation of service delivery by providing technical and consultation assistance, a pre-news conference announcement from Fiji, said.
The project is valued at USD8 million or SBD65.5million.
The visit by Ambassador Seam this week is the second visit to Solomon Islands. He last visited Solomon Islands four years ago.
Ambassador Seam will speak to the media in a 45-minute news conference in Honiara after the formal announcement ceremony.
