LEADER of Opposition Hon Matthew Wale has cautioned the ministry of health to be vigilant for new Covid variants on incoming tourists to Solomon Islands.
In a statement Honorable Wale said China’s move to open up international travel has caused global concerns for possible new variants spreading beyond China’s borders.
He said passengers travelling from China enroute to Solomon Islands must be properly assessed.
The Opposition Leader called on the health ministry to provide information on the measures currently put in place to counter any new threats of new variants.
“We must not let our guard down. The fight against Covid is not over,” he said.
Hon Wale also called on the health ministry to provide an update on the current status of the Covid situation in the country.
“What is the current Covid situation in the country? How many cases have we registered so far? Deaths? And also if there are any new variants,” he said.
