The new Premier for Western Province is Billy Veo.
He is the Provincial Member for Ward 25 – Noro Town.
Mr Veo has been a long time politician in the Western Provincial before after the ethnic tension.
Speaking after his election victory, Mr Veo said his government will ensure its new policy is prepared in the first 100 days of tenure.
He highlighted some areas which new government’s policy will cover and these include the Federal System, provincial land development, health and working together with the national government.
According to Mr Veo his government will vigorously pursue the proposed Federal System of governance as it is a national project which Western Province is leading its implementation.
He said all land in the province that are under the provincial authority his new government will ensure these are returned to Western Province to be catalogued for investment.
“Taking back what belongs to the province is a key policy priority of my government,” the new premier said.
In the health sector, Mr Veo promised to ensure there is enough medicine available in hospitals and clinics all year round.
He mentioned that health as an important sector of the economy and communities means Western Province must try to live along health standards.
He thanked every front line medical and paramedics for their huge sacrifice and commitment at the height of the pandemic.
He said those working during the COVID-19 period in the country deserved praise from the public in the West.
Mr Veo said he will also maintain a cordial working relation with the national government and promised to see the relationship extended with the ministries.
He said people in the Western Province need to set aside differences and start to work together as it is the only means for the province to move ahead.
