Men in custody for armed robbery
THREE men have been arrested and charged for allegedly robbing over $100,000 including Chinese currencies at the Holiday Resort Motel at Henderson, Guadalcanal on January 20.
Police Commissioner Mostyn Mangau, at his first weekly media conference for this year, said the trio are currently remanded in custody.
He said the men aged between 21 and 23 years are due to appear in the Honiara Magistrates Court again on February 13.
“It was alleged that three suspects entered the building armed with bush knives in the early hours of 20 January 2023,” Mr Mangau said.
He added that one of the suspects wounded a victim who is a Chinese national and then escaped with $100, 000, including Chinese currencies.
“During the arrest of the three suspects on 26 January 2023, 300 dollars in Chinese currency was recovered with a handbag whilst a huge amount of money has yet to be recovered.
Mr Mangau said investigation is continuing and called for anyone who might have information related to this incident to come forward and assist police in their investigation or call Guadalcanal Police phone 36200 or 36201.
Commissioner Mangau said, “Investigation into this matter continues, anyone with information related to this robbery incident to come forward and assist police or call Guadalcanal Police on phone 36200 or 36201.”
Younger brother charged with attempted murder
POLICE are appealing to people in Santa Cruz, Temotu Province who witnessed an attempted murder incident between two brothers there to assist police with their investigation.
Police Commissioner, Mostyn Mangau, made the call at his first weekly conference with the media yesterday at the Rove Police Headquarters.
This followed an incident at Luebava Village, Santa Cruz Island on 21 January this year.
“I want to appeal to the good people of Luebava village who were there during the incident to assist police with investigation into this matter,” he said.
Mr Mangau said it was alleged that two brothers were drinking alcohol when an argument broke out between them.
“The brothers had some differences in the past that led to their argument where the elder brother becomes a victim after his younger brother used a 26-inch bush knife to cut his hand and abdomen.
“The victim is currently admitted at Lata hospital and is in critical condition.”
The Police Commissioner said the suspect has been charged with attempted murder contrary to section 215 of the Penal Code (ch.26) and was released on bail for medical reason.
He said he will be remanded soon after he is discharged from the Lata Hospital to appear in court on a later date.
Police probe attempted murder in Temotu
OFFICERS of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) at the Lata Police Station in Temotu Province are investigating an attempted murder case in Luebava Village, Santa Cruz Island, on 21 January.
Police Commissioner Mostyn Mangau said, “It is alleged that two brothers were drinking alcohol when an argument broke out between them. The brothers had some differences in the past that led to their argument in which the elder brother became a victim after his younger brother used a 26-inch bush knife to cut his hand and abdomen.”
The victim is in a critical condition at the Lata hospital.
Commissioner Mangau said, “I want to appeal to the good people of Luebava village who were there during the incident to assist police with investigation into this matter.”
