SETTING up of the Malaita Province Resources Management Advisory Committee is the way forward for donor-funded development in Malaita Province.
Malaita Premier, Daniel Suidani, expressed this sentiment after the establishment of the Malaita Province Resources Management Advisory Committee, which is working on the ground with USAID and Winrock.
Premier Suidani said this process is the way forward for donor-funded development in Malaita Province to ensure accomplishment.
He said Malaita Province wants to be actively involved in development and not just be a passive participant as was the case in past years.
“I would like to clearly highlight that this is the way forward for donor-funded development in Malaita Province.
“Malaita Province does not want to be a passive participant in development activities that are taking place in the province.
“We want to be active participants and finding new structural arrangements within the governing structure of the provincial establishment is key to achieving sustainable development,” Premier Suidani said.
“Malaita Province or Provincial Governments as a whole for that matter have been a sitting pot plant since they were given their provincial status.
“This has to change to allow provincial governments to participate as equal partners in developing their provinces and not just be mere agents as has often been trumpeted by many,” the premier added.
Premier Suidani then thanked the current Malaita Province Resources Management Advisory Committee for a job well-done in liaising with USAID and Winrock on the ground.
