THE matter of five people accused of stealing products from the Solomon Islands Tobacco Company Limited in East Honiara during the November 2021 riot will return to the Court tomorrow.
This is for Prosecution to confirm if the summons were served on the five defendants to face the Honiara Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
The five defendants consisted of three females and two males. They are facing charges of Larceny and Behave in a Riotous Manner.
Prosecution has informed the court that summons was already served on the defendants to appear in court yesterday.
However, the defendants did not turn up in court yesterday.
Principal Magistrate Tearo Beneteti therefore directed the prosecution to confirm if summons were already served and if copy of the served summons can be made available on the file.
She said that if it’s confirmed summons was already served then a warrant of arrested will be issued for the defendants.
The five defendants were accused of stealing cartons and sleeves of Tobacco products from the Solomon Islands Tobacco Company Limited on 26 November 2021.
During the civil unrest in Honiara between 24 November and 26 November 2021, rioters broke into business houses and shops and stole their products. One of the business houses broken into and looted during the unrest is the Solomon Islands Tobacco Limited.
