A MAN who allegedly threw a knife that went through her sister’s leg has been charged with murder and is remanded in custody after the death of his sibling at the National Referral Hospital (NRH).
At his weekly conference yesterday, Police Commissioner, Mostyn Mangau said the incident happened between 7am and 12pm on 5 January this year at Sumate area, West Guadalcanal.
“The deceased and the suspect were siblings (brother and sister),” Mr Mangau said.
He added that the deceased was washing rice at the tank when the accused shot her with a bush knife and it went through her right leg.
“The motive behind the murder incident was that the mother of both the deceased and the suspect told them not to eat nuts prepared for market the next day before she went to church.”
“When the mother left, the suspect took some of the nuts and ate them.
“When the mother returned, the deceased reported what had happened to her and that was when the suspect got angry and shot his sister with a bush knife.
The victim was transported for medical attention at the National Referral Hospital and died a few days after the incident,” Mr Mangau said.
He said the suspect has been charged with murder and is currently remanded in custody to appear before the Honiara Magistrate’s Court at a later date.
