The Hon. Minister for the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) Augustine Auga has left the country Tuesday 07th March for the Pacific Head of Agriculture and Forestry Service convene to be held in Fiji on the 9th of March, to be followed by the Pacific Ministers of Agriculture and Forestry meeting on the 10th of March 2023.
Minister Auga is accompanied by the MAL Permanent Secretary, Mr. Lottie Vaisekavea for the two important meetings.
SPC reports the Pacific Agriculture and Forestry Ministers and Heads will meet in person for the first time in four years due to Covid-19 restrictions to boost the region’s agriculture and forest sectors.
The regional meeting of the Pacific Heads of Agriculture and Forestry Services and companion joint Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Pacific Community (SPC) Agriculture and Forestry Ministerial meeting is the most important event on the agriculture and forestry calendar.
Hosted by the Fiji Government and organised by the SPC Land Resources Division and FAO, the meeting seeks to revitalise engagement with key partners and deliberate on important issues for the agriculture and forestry sectors.
The meeting will also provide guidance to the Land Resources Division in regard to its goals and work priorities for the following two years.
During their absence the Minister for Lands, Housing and Survey, Hon. Ismael Avui will be the Minister supervising for MAL while Deputy Secretary Technical Mr. Michael Ho’ota will be the PS supervising.
They will both return on the 12th of March 2023.
