THE public have been reminded about the right days to enquire about their passport applications at the allocated times.
This came after members of the public, especially those interested to take up employment in Australia and New Zealand under the labour mobility scheme, continued to crowd the Immigration Department at the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Labour and Immigration (MCILI) compound yesterday morning.
Most of the people were there either to submit their applications for new passports or collect their new passports.
Reports reaching Solomon Star said over the past week, the MCILI compound in Honiara continued to be packed with members of the public wishing to either apply for or collect their new passports.
The bulk of the crowd were those wanting to travel to Australia and New Zealand under the labour mobility scheme.
According to the Immigration Department, the allocated days for seasonal workers are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Tuesdays and Thursdays are allocated for students, government officials and all other persons.
However, yesterday (Tuesday) morning, the Immigration compound was packed with mostly seasonal workers.
And the guards have to remind them again of the days allocated for them.
The rush to get passports has intensified after the closure of submission for the Worker Ready Pool (WRP) recruitment drive last Friday.
Meanwhile, the public have been reminded that those who wish to apply for a new passport must make sure to write an application letter before they can be considered and allocated a time to submit their applications.
It was revealed that more new passport booklets have arrived in the country. Passport pickups are scheduled for after lunchtime hours only.
