A MAJOR clean-up is set to go ahead in the Western Provincial capital, Gizo, today.
This is to prepare for the four-day premiers’ workshop next week.
The township is all excited and gearing up for the event that will bring together the country’s provincial leaders for the first time after the COVID-19 pandemic.
All premiers have been invited and are expected to attend.
The Office of the Prime Minister and Cabinet (OPMC) is facilitating the workshop.
Emails sent to the OMPC on Tuesday to confirm the programme was not responded to.
But according to a tentative programme, some of the officials will start arriving this weekend.
To prepare for the event, Gizo Town Council (GTC) issued an advisory to all provincial offices, businesses, stakeholders and the public to engage in a major clean-up today.
The advisory was issued early this week and the public is aware of it.
The Gizo main road which had been dotted with potholes got some quick repairs in the past days, whilst some sections of the road have been filled up with gravel.
Along the roads, workers contracted and engaged under the CAUSE project have also been busy doing clean-ups.
The GTC advisory also appealed to all betelnut vendors to remove themselves from the roadside before next week.
For months, despite orders from the provincial authorities, these illegal betelnut vendors continue with their roadside business in defiance of the orders.
