THE Government will be considering a third telecommunication provider if Bemobile Limited does not perform to expectation under its licenses.
This was revealed by the Minister of Communication and Aviation (MCA), Peter Shanel Agovaka, in Parliament on Tuesday.
He was responding to a supplementary question raised by the Opposition Leader and Member of Parliament (MP) for Aoke-Langalanga Constituency, Matthew Wale.
“As far as the government is concerned, we do not think about having a third operator.
“However, if Bemobile is not up to date or up to speed with the provision of services under their license. Then, there is a possibility to invite a third operator into the country,” Minister Agovaka said.
Minister Agovaka also informed the Parliament that the Bemobile Board had requested to meet with him as the Minister for Communication this week.
He said this is for him to hear from them about their expansion plans.
The MCA Minister said there are other companies that can help the country improve and expand the country’s telecommunication services.

Minister Agovaka also informed Parliament that Government is committed to building more towers around the country as part of providing telecommunication services to the citizens nationwide.
He said the towers will be used by licensed operators to provide communication services right across the country.
