Solomon Airlines is planning to expand its flight services to the Autonomous Region of Bougainville in the near future.
In the past, the airline flew from Honiara to Kiata, a small jungle settlement in the Torokina District of Central Bougainville in Papua New Guinea.
Solomon Airlines CEO, Gus Kraus, recently highlighted that they aim to resume this flight service and potentially launch a flight from Munda to Bougainville, subject to the approval of the Papua New Guinea government.
He said they were also looking at a long-term agreement with the government of PNG to fly from Munda into Bougainville.
“We usually fly the Twin Otter from Honiara to Kiata in 3 hours 20 minutes.
“It’s like a Brisbane flight.
“However, with the Dash 8, we believe it will work,” he said.
Kraus, who has been the CEO of Solomon Airlines since 2011, has extensive experience in the aviation industry, specifically in operations, finance, sales, and customer service.
The expansion of flight services will benefit both countries by providing an economic boost to the economies of both the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea.
