Man pleads guilty to obstructing Solomon Water officer
THE man who obstructed a Solomon Water worker who went to disconnect his water metre has pleaded guilty to the offence.
Walter Natei has pleaded guilty to one count of obstruction of work, a charge laid under the Solomon Islands Water Authority (SIWA) Act.
Sentencing submissions and mitigation on his matter will be made in court on Monday.
Natei obstructed the work of a Solomon Water worker who went to disconnect his water metre on 21 February last year
The court heard that when the victim and his colleagues went to Natei’s residence, Natei told them he had already paid $50 for his water bill.
However, when the victim called the Solomon Water Office to verify the payment, he was told there was no payment made.
Natei, who had in his possession at that time a knife, then threatened the victim.
Fortunately, Natei’s son intervened and restrained him.
The matter was later reported to police, resulting in Natei’s arrest.
Murder trial to commence Monday
TRIAL into the murder of a man with disability in West Kolaridge, Central Honiara, last October will start on Monday next week in the High Court.
Jemmy Teleinao, who is facing one count of murder, will be facing trial before Justice John Keniapisia at 9.30am on Monday next week.
Police charged Teleinao in relation to the allegation on 23 October last year.
It was alleged that Teleinao hit the neck of the deceased who was a disabled person thrice with the deceased’s walking stick.
This was after he allegedly got angry with the deceased for asking him twice to fetch water to mix with their leftover alcohol.
Teleinao, the deceased and other youths at West Kolaridge were said to have had a drinking party just beside the Jacob’s ladder in the area on the night of 22 October.
The prosecution alleged that they enjoyed their time throughout the night until the next day, Sunday October 23.
The rest of the boys had left, leaving Teleinao and the deceased alone.
It was then that the alleged incident occurred.
A neighbour intervened and tried to save the deceased who had lost his breath.
After regaining his breath, he was assisted to the National Referral Hospital but was later pronounced dead.
