THE National Crime Prevention Department (NCPD) of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) is proactively working to achieve the three goals of its five-year Strategic Direction Plan 2021-2025.
The three goals are to: Improve community confidence and trust; Work in close partnership with stakeholders and the community to strengthen public safety; and to Enhance NCPD’s organisational capability and capacity.
NCPD Director, John Matamaru, revealed this to journalists during a three-day National Security Media Workshop held from Tuesday to Thursday last week at the Heritage Park Hotel in Honiara.
Mr Matamaru said NCPD is working towards fulfilling these three goals, adding that their fulfillment is vital to achieving the desired strategic direction.
In his presentation, Mr Matamaru also talked about the 2023-2027 Crime Prevention Strategy and what NCPD will to do to achieve and highlighted the following measures as the prerequisite to achieving this strategy:
- Community corporation;
- Problem-solving and intelligence-led policing;
- Stakeholder cooperation;
- Efficient, capable and responsive police;
- Respect of Solomon Islands custom; and
- Promotion of cultures.
Mr Matamaru said police are proactively involved in community and stakeholder consultations to establish crime prevention committees and community engagements to address drivers of crime.
