THE demand for public transport bus service in Honiara is surging as more people have moved into the national capital from the provinces in search of jobs, business and further educational opportunities.
As was observed by Solomon Star every morning in the Lunnga and Henderson areas, the number of people who have moved in from the provinces mostly live in the settlements here and their daily frequenting of Honiara has seen a surge in the demand for public transport services.
The surge in the demand for public transport bus service daily see people fighting to be served at the Henderson and Lunnga bus stops.
Often those living on the outskirts of Honiara but are working and studying in the capital are victimised by these urban migrants as they do not have the stamina to fight their way onto public transport buses, hence resulting in lateness at work and school.
This bus situation needs immediate attention of the responsible authorities as the demand for public transport bus service is bound to peak during the Pacific Games from mid-November to early December.
The surge in the demand for public transport bus service is not only experienced at the Henderson and Lunnga bus stops but at other bus stops on the outskirts of Honiara too.
Furthermore, the ongoing short route distances run by public bus transport service providers is costing commuters as they have to catch either two or different buses to get to their destination and so far, no action has been taken by the responsible authorities to address this pressing issue.
