SOLOMON Islands has lost its first international friendly match 4-1 to Malaysia on Wednesday night in Malaysia.
Despite an impressive start with the opening goal, Solomon Islands were dominated by the hosts and conceded four goals.
Solomon Islands international Raphael Lea’i gave the national team the lead 11 minutes into the first half.
Gagame Feni made a solo run down the left flank beating the goalkeeper and defender before sending it back to the unmarked Lea’i who made no mistake slotting it into the net for the opening goal.
Malaysia was quick to equalize followed shortly by a penalty to give them a 2-1 lead at half time.
The hosts then scored another two goals in the second half to seal their victory.
For Solomon Islands, this is a good run for both the players and Coach Felipe Arango.
The friendly match will help to keep building positive momentum towards the 2023 Pacific Games.
The team will work on areas needed to step up before their second international friendly against Singapore.
The international friendly match against Singapore is scheduled for Sunday June 18th in Singapore.
