THE Honiara City Council awaits suitable funds before starting to build public toilets in different locations in Honiara.
This was confirmed by HCC City Clerk Justus Denni during the 2023 South Pacific Games talk back show at the SIBC on Monday.
“When funds are available, we will build public toilets within 3 to 4 months,” he assured the country.
He was answering a question asked by a listener who wanted an update on when HCC will build the toilets to cater for the people who will be visiting Honiara during the peak time of the games later this year.
He said the design of 3 to 4 rooms and their costs have been prepared and when the funds are available, the work on the toilets will commence.
He said nine locations have been identified and prioritised for the construction of the toilets.
HCC has informed the National Hosting Authority (NHA) and other partners about the toilet project.
Mr. Denni has assured the nation that HCC has been discussing this matter with the Chairman of China and provides suggested options in which China can support.
He said the options are that China can provide materials for the HCC team to build or China can build the toilets if they want to because time is running out.
He said any business, companies or kind-hearted people can also lend their support by building the toilets and later handing over the completed facilities to HCC.
