SOLOMON Islands Mission (SIM) of the Seventh Day Adventist Church has congratulated Gizo GF Jones Memorial Church for a milestone achievement in finally dedicating its new church building last Wednesday.
It took about 27 years to get the work done and the SIM President Pastor David Filo on congratulated the church.
The theme for the dedication service was “Come Dwell in Us.”
Pr Filo said Gizo GF Jones is one of the organised churches in the country and part of the one big family of the Adventist Church.
He led a high-level delegation from the SIM office in Honiara to attend the programme.
Pr Filo said it was an honour for him and his team to attend the ceremony.
He said the church of God was established as part of God’s plan to save humanity.
“The church belongs to God,” Pr Filo said.
Pr Filo highlighted that church should not be regarded as a private entity.
He recalled an incident in Papua New Guinea (PNG) where a person regarded the church as his own and wanted to control all its affairs.
“The church belongs to God. It is an institution established by God. Church is made up of members and is an active institution.”
Pr Filo said having a sanctuary is important to allow God to dwell amongst his people.
The SIM President also reminded the members of the church to turn from their negative actions to allow the presence of the Holy Spirit in the church.
He told the congregation to maintain their relationship with God.
“God initiates the call and we respond to the call,” Pr Filo added.
Pr Filo highlighted that the church should be a light house to others in the community.
He said the church building belongs to God and it is important to honour the church.
He also thanked the Western Province Premier Billy Veo for attending the church dedication programme and highlighted the important partnership between the government and churches. The dedication programme saw most of the pioneer church members and their families who have supported the initial construction of the church building acknowledged.
