Solomon Islands Minister of Foreign Affairs and External Trade Hon. Jeremiah Manele held successful bilateral meetings with his Vietnamese and Portuguese counterparts; H.E. Mr. Bui Thanh Son and H.E. Joao Gomes Gravinho, at the Margins of the 78th UNGA in New York today.
Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Manele used the engagements to further deepen and strengthen Solomon Islands partnership with the two countries.
Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Manele expressed areas of mutual interests Solomon Islands endeavors to work closely on, especially common challenges and areas of potential benefits between Solomon Islands and its two bilateral partners.
The bilateral meetings core emphasis include; global environmental challenges such as climate change, ocean pollution, shared vulnerabilities to natural disasters, bilateral cooperation in fisheries and agriculture, and trade links. Solomon Islands also appreciate the opportunity to learn from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Portuguese Republic’s past food-scarce experiences and their transformation to becoming among the world’s leading producers and exporters of agricultural products.
In accepting Solomon Island’s proposal on signing up to a development cooperation framework, Foreign Ministers of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and Portuguese Republic concur to establishing trade links and economic collaboration with Solomon Islands.
Conveying their response to the Solomon Islands Foreign Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam and the Portuguese Republic’s Foreign Ministers express genuine appreciation and acknowledgement to Solomon Islands for the steadfast bilateral commitments demonstrated in reaching out to both countries.
Solomon Islands vouch to continue the dialogue and coordinate in fulfilling the new partnership objectives at all levels, and expect the relationship to flourish and prosper. Solomon Islands anticipates having more bilateral dialogues at the margin of the 78th United Nations General Assembly this week.
