MALAIATA Provincial Government has acknowledged the Australian government’s assurance to support Malaita Province with emergency work on patching up its deteriorated roads.
Malaita Province Acting Premier Edward Misite’e said the assurance was made by the Infrastructure Team from the Australian High Commission in a meeting in Auki early this week.
MPA Misite’e said his Malaita New Government for Fundamental Reform (MNGFR) appreciates Australia for it continued partnership and collaboration with Malaita Province and its people.
Following the meeting, the Infrastructure Team visited roads in Central Kwara’ae, North Malaita and East Malaita.
“Malaita Provincial Government under the leadership of MNGFR appreciates Australia for the great assurance to support Malaita Province and the people to support emergency work on fixing the roads.
“We welcome Australia for its assurance to support Malaita Province patch up the deteriorated roads in Malaita.
“I believe this will help the province and the people enjoy smooth travelling,” the Deputy Premier said.
Deputy Premier Misite’e said roads in Malaita have deteriorated and need and require fixing to ensure safe travel.
He said the current state of road infrastructures in the province have greatly impacted health and education services.
The Deputy Premier said his government is well aware of the poor state of roads in the province which is a grave concern to people across the province and on social media.
As such, he said Malaita Provincial Government acknowledges the Australian Government for the assurance.
“The Malaita Provincial Government acknowledges the Australian High Commission’s Infrastructure team for visiting and showing support to Malaita Province.”
“The Malaita Provincial Government is happy and will continue to work closely with Australia to provide services to people in Malaita,” Deputy Premier Misite’e said.
