THE Burnscreek Community Clinic in East Honiara is now equipped with two defibrillators.
The two brand-new defibrillators gifted by the National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands (NOCSI) and the Oceania National Olympic Community were handed over to the medical officer in charge of the clinic Dr Mahlon Vae by NOCSI’s Dr Jack Puti and ONOC’s Dr Alex Munamua at the National Sports Council Office in Point Cruz yesterday.
The two normal heartbeat restoration devises donated to the Burnscreek Clinic were amongst 14 of such devices given to NOCSI for donation by ONOC.
ONOC brought into the country the 14 defibrillators along with 24 first aid kits for distribution to various needy recipients.
Defibrillators are life-saving devices for emergency cases including sports emergency situations when casualties need urgent resuscitation.
Dr Vae, when receiving the devices, expressed gratitude to NOCSI and ONOC for supporting the Burnscreek Clinic with these new life-saving devises.
The Burnscreek Clinic was built by Royal Fiji Military Force (RFMF) serving in Honiara under the Solomons International Assistance Force (SIAF) and the health facility is now providing critical services to people in East Honiara and as far as Tenaru in Central Guadalcanal.
A SIAF RFMF personnel was present at the handing over ceremony.
It was highlighted during the handing over ceremony that the Burnscreek Clinic receives between 160 to 200 patients per day and the devises would go a long way to aiding its health workers to address resuscitation emergencies.
