THE outgoing, outspoken and former Opposition Leader, Mathew Wale is in boiling water as his constituents of Aoke-Langalanga Constituency continue to expose his ‘dirty deals’ to retain the constituency seat at the coming National General Election (NGE) in April.
A government insider said many officials have read the news item in the Solomon Star Edition of 25 January 2024 about the bribery accusation made against the former Aoke-Langalanga MP by one of his constituents.
In fact, there are more shocking evil things that were committed by Wale that are yet to be published, the government insider said.
“I work in government, I know what he has done, which would do serious damage to the fairness of the 2024 General Election. But my ability is so limited, that I can only turn to the media for help. Hope you could expose his corruption and let the voters see his true colors clearly,” the source said.
The insider stated that the Deputy Provincial Secretary of Malaita Province David Filia told him that Mathew Wale has kept asking to meet with him after he announced his intention to contest Aoke-Langalanga Constituency seat in the 2024 Election.
“In December 2023, Wale invited David Filia, Vincent Anisi and David Faradalolo to meet at the Auki Acheh Coffee. Vincent Anisi and David Faradalolo did well in the last election. Wale said he was informed by the officers in the Auki Langalanga polling station that the three intending candidates were running for the constituency seat in the 2024 Election but he wants them not to. Wale promised to provide SBD 4 million as compensation as well as secretary and senior consultant positions in the government if he forms the next government.
“Wale also said that his popularity in the constituency is beyond them and asked them to seriously reconsider contesting the election. Filia refused Wale’s offer, whilst the other two told him that they would consider his offer.
“Besides these, a polling station officer told me that officers from each polling station were invited to meet in Wale’s house in November 2023. Wale asked them to help him to be re-elected by revising the ballot papers, rigging ballot papers and lobbying voters. Wale assured them that he would offer 5000 SBD for each voter before the polling day and after he wins will offer 10,000 SBD for each of his voters.
“All the officers in the Malaita Provincial Government know that Filia and Mathew Wale are relatives and Filia has worked in the Aoke-Langalanga Constituency Office but their relationship was not good. Filia has repeatedly been accusing Wale of not leading the constituency to prosperity. Filia accused Wale of corrupting millions of CDF and was eventually was dismissed by Wale. Wale also threatened to take Filia to court if he mentioned these issues again,” the government inside said.
The government insider added that Wale is buying votes, bribing the electoral officers and even bribing other candidates.
The government said such actions tantamount to fraud.
“I hope you could help to expose this evil behaviour, prevent such corrupt legislator from continuing to participate in our politic,” the government insider said.
