THE Caretaker Minister for Home Affairs, Chris Laore has been unseated from the Shortland Islands Constituency Seat by his nephew Isikeli Vave Junior.
The result of the Shortland Islands Constituency Election earlier declared by the Returning Officer for constituency’s Returning Officer was announced by the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) and Commissioner Jasper Highwood Anisi early this evening.
Laore polled 971 votes, which is 97 votes short of the number of votes secured by Vave Jr. The latter polled 1,068 votes.
Laore, a Physiotherapist by profession, contested the 2024 National General Election of the Joint Elections under the banner of OUR Party.
Vave Jnr contested as an Independent candidate.
The other candidates were Joseph Gorae who polled 683 votes, Silverio Ilaha Lepe who polled 258 votes, Benedict Teahui who polled 57 votes and Ninamo Otuana who polled only 1 vote.
The total registered number of voters in the Shortland Islands Constituency stands at 5,154 and the total number of votes casted were 3,068. There were no rejected votes.
Laore was first elected into Parliament in a bye-election necessitated by the death of its newly elected MP Steve Laore. Steve died soon after his election in August 2010.
