MERCI Siwainao Clinic and Birthing Centre, located at Nine One in Henderson, East of Honiara, has achieved significant milestones since its inception on May 9, 2023.
The clinic proudly boasts the delivery of 12 babies within its new labor ward, complemented by the presence of a post-natal ward and a convenient walkway connecting the two.
Speaking to media at its one-year anniversary on Thursday this week, Dr. Jack Siwainao, the owner of the center, acknowledges the challenges of managing a private clinic and birthing facility.
This is especially considering that he funded the establishment using his savings accrued during his seven years tenure as a Specialist Consultant Obstetrician Gynaecologist at the National Referral Hospital in Honiara.
Despite lacking prior experience in establishing a birthing center, Dr. Siwainao leveraged his expertise gained from the National Referral Hospital and sought guidance from former midwifery colleagues to realize his vision.
Looking ahead, he plans to expand the facility by adding a medical laboratory and pharmacy, with an ongoing project to construct an operating theater scheduled for completion by December of this year.
Upon its completion, Dr. Siwainao intends to equip the operating theater and potentially transition the clinic into a hospital setting.
This ambition aligns with his lifelong dream, which originated during his medical studies in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, to operate a private hospital that provides accessible healthcare options for women who can afford them.
Dr. Siwainao emphasizes the importance of direct access to healthcare services, citing the limitations of referral systems encountered at the National Referral Hospital.
At MERCI Siwainao Clinic and Birthing Centre, women receive prompt medical attention, diagnosis, and treatment, often on the same day, circumventing the delays associated with referral processes at NRH.
Reflecting on his achievements, Dr. Siwainao attributes his success to the proactive pursuit of his dreams, inspired by the wisdom of his late grandfather.
He emphasizes the necessity of translating aspirations into tangible actions, underscoring the value of strategic planning and diligent execution.
Drawing lessons from the entrepreneurial spirit of Chinese culture, Dr. Siwainao maintains a steadfast commitment to his business, operating from 9 am to 9 pm daily, regardless of holidays or special occasions.
This unwavering dedication mirrors his vision for continuous growth and progress in providing quality healthcare services to the community.
