THE Malaita Provincial Government (MPG) has expressed gratitude to Australia for its ongoing support to Solomon Islands and moreover for funding the Malaita South Road Rehabilitation Project.
At the project unveiling ceremony in Auki on Wednesday, Premier Elijah Asilaua described the event as a significant moment of unity, which symbolizes a tripartite partnership amongst the Australian Government, Solomon Islands Government and Malaita Provincial Government for a brighter future for Malaita.
Premier Asilaua emphasized that the project is more than just an infrastructure, adding that it is a vital lifeline for communities as it will enhance social and economic access.
“The Malaita South Road will improve access to health centers, schools, markets and trading opportunities,”
“It will connect villages, reduce distances and support tourism operators along the economic corridor,” he elaborated.
Premier Asilaua added that Australia’s support for the rehabilitation of the Malaita South Road reflects mutual benefitsand fosters a long-lasting friendship that will positively impact local communities.
“My Executive, the Malaita Provincial Government, and our people of Malaita Province sincerely acknowledge youYour Excellency High Commissioner Rod Hilton, the Australian Government and the people of Australia,” he said.
Premier Asilaua expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Minister of Infrastructure Development, Manasseh Maelanga and the National Transport Fund Steering Committee, MID technical engineers, Solomon Islands Infrastructure Program team and DT Global Asia Pacific Pty Ltd for the role they played in this initiative.
He said the Malaita South Road Rehabilitation project signifies the beginning of a collaborative journey marked by resilience and shared purpose.
The unveiling ceremony was attended by the Australian High Commissioner Rod Hilton and his staff members,Minister for Infrastructure and Development, Manasseh Maelanga, Permanent Secretaries, local contractor representatives and community members.
