KILUSAKWALO Christian Community High School (KCCHS) in Malaita Province celebrated the completion of the refurbishment of its hall on Wednesday– thanks to the funding support from the People’s Republic of China.
This refurbishment project was secured after the historical signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for cooperation between Malaita Province and China’s Jiangsu Province.
The refurbishment work was completed in only four months and its completion represents a pivotal development for both the school and the greater Kilusakwalo Community.
In a handing over ceremony of the newly completed refurbished hall on Wednesday, Principal John Limaito’o expressed heartfelt gratitude to China for funding the school hall refurbishment and highlighted the importance of collaboration.
Mr Limaito’o acknowledged China for recognizing the needs of Kilusakwalo and moreover, Malaita Province.
A representative from the Chinese Embassy, Gu Wenlong praised the swift implementation of the the school hall refurbishment project as a testament to the hard work of Malaitan people and China’s commitment to their wellbeing.
Mr Gu said Malaita is the most populated province in Solomon Islands and this renders it crucial for China to invest in improving the livelihoods of its people.
In addition to the school hall refurbishment project, Mr Gu highlighted that over 20 projects funded under the China-funded Rural Sustainable Development Program (RSDP) are underway.
These include a mini hospital, clinics, classrooms, staff housing, sanitation facilities, water supply projects, solar lighting, fishery plants, and community rest houses.
Mr Gu also took the opportunity to update the school on the progress of the China-funded Auki Road Tar Seal Projectas well as the Memorandum of Cooperation signed between Solomon Islands and China that will see agricultural and marine products from Malaita and other provinces directly exported to China, providing Solomon Islanders with financial benefits to improve their livelihood.
