A YOUTH empowerment leadership training for young leaders in Guadalcanal Province (GP) was recently held.
The aim of the training was for the youth leaders to take on leadership roles and make positive contributions to their communities and the wider society.
The one-day training was at National Youth Congress Center in Honiara and was attended by participants from Tasiboko, Ghaobata, Malango, Vatukulau, Wanderer Bay and Talise.
The Guadalcanal Youth Council President highlighted the important principles that they must implement within their respective areas during the youth training on Tuesday at NYC Center.
“Youth leadership involves empowering young people to take on leadership roles and make positive contributions to their communities and the wider society.
“The youth leadership programs often provide opportunities for young people to engage in community service, advocacy and mentorship to help them to be confident, responsible and become ethical leaders.
“The programs is vital to inspire and support young individuals to become change-makers and create a better future for themselves and others,” the president said.
Guadalcanal youth Coordinator Hezekiah Taku said there is a lot to be done to address the issues raised.
“Our attitude towards honoring our province is what is lacking. Our irresponsible attitudes must be changed. As youths of this province, you are the ones that will make this happen.
“We must change the way we think and act before we can go forward in development,” he said.
Mr Taku added that as the person responsible for empowering youths in Guadalcanal Province, he will work closely with the concerned GYC, communities and stakeholders to address the challenges.
“Together, we can help our youths so that every young person can dream big and contribute to progress and development of our province,” he said.
Mr Taku said allowing young people to involve in such programs will help develop their skills and talents to become good leaders and God-fearing citizens.
He also expressed the need for more similar trainings for Guadalcanal youths.
