WORK has begun in reviving the long standing Logunaguavi Airstrip project in Central Islands’ Province’s Sandfly Buena Vesta Ward, Ngella, its Member of the Provincial Assembly (MPA) Hon. Maurice Tinoni Mae has announced.
The Logunaguavi Airstrip project was proposed as one of the national development projects some years ago but it never eventuated, Hon Mae said in a statement this week.
“I am passionate about reviving the project as it suits some of the development plans for my Ward,” he said.
He has worked with his Ward Development Committee, which succeeded in reaching a round table discussions with the resource owning group led by Mr. Ian Paolo (pictured) of Sanvesta Ward in Honiara on Wednesday.
Hon. Mae said he value the importance of such infrastructure development as the Ward One, CIP is eyeing to be a Tourism Hub in Central Islands Province.
“Such infrastructure is crucial as we are preparing to become a Tourism Hub for Central Islands Province and the country at large,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mr. Paolo, he said, has assured Hon Mae and his Ward Development Committee (WDC) of his commitment and support for the project. Mr. Paolo also submitted formal documents of ownership of the land earmarked for the project.
“Both parties have shown strong partnership interests in moving the project forward,” Hon Mae said after their meeting in Honiara on Thursday.
