A FAMILY in Vella La Vella, Western Province is homeless after the father, angry over his missing home-brew container decided to burn down their home.
The incident occurred recently at Uzamba village, police said in statement today.
Police Media Unit reported that the 26-year-old husband burnt down the two storey dwelling house to ashes after he became angry while under the influence of alcohol and argued with his wife over his missing home-brew beer.
Supervising Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Western Province, Superintendent Wilken Miriki said, the husband with his wife occupied the downstairs of this dwelling house.
“They have an argument over a container of locally made homebrew the suspect is looking for after he wakes up.”
PPC Miriki said, the suspect was drunk the entire night before he burnt down the dwelling house.
“When he woke up the next day, he continued drinking homebrew. After he drank all the left-over homebrew, he went down to his wife’s market, approached her aggressively about the missing container of homebrew and cash to pay for more homebrew.”
It was reported that when his wife does not want to give him the money, he collected dried sago palm leaves, went inside the house and lit the sago palm leaf, locked the door of the house and left the house to be engulfed by the fire.
The suspect was arrested and placed in police custody, charged for the arson contrary to section 319 (a) of the Penal Code.
He is due to appear before Gizo Magistrates’ Court on a later date.
