STARLINK has announced, Wednesday, that its internet service is now available nationwide allowing Solomon Islanders to access high speed internet.
In a twit on Wednesday Starlink owner and billionaire Elon Musk said; “Starlink is now available across the Solomon Islands.”
The service became available after the Telecommunication Commission of Solomon Islands (TCSI) last Thursday granted a Class License to Starlink to operate in Solomon Islands.
TCSI Commissioner, Calvin Ziru when granting the license signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with one of the Starlink Directors Ryan Goodnight who is responsible for Starlink licensing globally.
Goodnight was in the country to formally receive the license during a brief ceremony held in Honiara.
Starlink is now operating in the country through its locally incorporated company ‘Starlink Solomon Islands Limited’ under the supervision of its parent company Starlink in the United States.
With the presence of the company now in the country, the cost of buying the setup hardware kit is around $3000 while the monthly bill is around $424.
The latest price has got many local customers excited who can’t wait to sign up.
Early this year, the cost of the hardware kit was around $7000 with a monthly bill of $1000.
Already many businesses and families are talking about acquiring a set for themselves.
Others are now asking where to register and signup for the service.
Solomon Islands is one of the countries in the South Pacific that granted Starlink an operating license.
Talks to grant Starlink the license started two years ago, it was also revealed.
Ziru also clarified with the high number of illegal Starlink units brought into the country, Starlink has taken the position to turn off connections to the Solomon Islands.
But with the license now issued it has now enabled current users of Starlink to switch to their service.
With the service now available the country is set to experience a significant boost in internet connectivity.
The availability of the service promises to improve internet access around the globe by providing reliable, high-speed internet to people, businesses, and the global economy.
With the presence of Starlink now in the country, Solomon Islanders expect a drop in price for internet services which are currently offered by other internet service providers.
