MORE than 3000 bombs have already been removed from communities in Western province as part of the Operation Render Safe 2024.
The unexploded ordinances (UXO) were carefully removed and destroyed in an operation involving the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) Explosive Ordinance (EODD) team while working closely with the Australian Defence Force (ADF) and international partners.
In a statement issued by Police Media Unit, Wednesday, Director EODD Inspector Tunuki said; “This operation has been the most successful ever with more than 3000 bombs already removed from the communities.”
He said, those UXOs destroyed were collected from Munda, Noro and surrounding communities in New Georgia Island.
More bombs were collected from communities around Kohingo at Ringi and Teme on Kolombangara island.
Director Tunuki said, in the recent years the RSIPF EODD has increased its capability to keep everyone safe.
“The operation has doubled with more qualified officers and latest equipment.”
This year the RSIPF EOD Department has disposed off bombs in the following provinces:
Guadalcanal – 1559
Central – 56
Western – 606
Choiseul – 108
