HONIARA City Council (HCC) has been boosted with two new vehicles thanks to Jiangmen City Municipal Authority of China’s Guangdong Province.
The ceremonial key, marking the donation of the two new vehicles, was handed over to Mayor Eddie Siapu on Friday by the Chairman of the Jiangmen Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Zhang Lei.
The handing over ceremony followed discussions between Mr Lei and his delegation and Mayor Siapu and his Executive and the HCC Clerk Justice Denni.
Mayor Siapu expressed appreciation for the visit by the delegation and the ongoing support the Jiangmen Municipal Authority renders to HCC in providing vehicles as well as equipment for waste management, law enforcement, health services and solar street lights.
The meeting saw discussions of issues pertinent to HCC moving forward with its services under the framework of the sister relationship between Honiara City and Jiangmen City.
The visit by Mr Lei and his delegation to the Honiara City Council was the second visit by any Jiangmen City Municipal Authority delegation since the establishment of the Honiara City-Jiangmen City Sister Relationship in May 2022.
Mr Lei said the sister relationship between the two cities was established at a crucial time – the 73rdAnniversary of the People’s Republic of China and in the second year since the China-Solomon Islands bilateral relations were established – and therefore it is a crucial one.
He thanked Mayor Siapu and his Executive for their hospitality and said the Jiangmen City Municipal Authority would invite the mayor for a visit.
