Dear Editor – I’m one of the students that really struggles to apply for an opportunity to acquire Solomon Island Government (SIG) scholarship. I have been trying a couple of times but with no success.
I have seen there’s a problem by which officers at the scholarships office are not fair in their selection.
It seems they only give the opportunity to their family members, relatives and those they know which is seen as nepotism.
On other hand, the officers use this opportunities as business where students give them money before they push to have their names into the scholarship list which seen as corruption, even if their grades or GPAs are low.
Students which obtain good grades or GPAs in high school were not given the opportunity, which this violates the rights of some of the best students to have the opportunity for sponsorship.
I have put this concern to the government to work on this concern and find how best this selection system and officers can be changed to better improve the system.
Yours Sincerely
