THE four ($4) million-dollar new classic Aligegeo Provincial Secondary School dining hall project in Auki, Malaita province is nearing completion.
It is expected to be handed over to the school soon, thanks to the national government for the provision of the new facility.
Government stepped in to fund the project in response to a fire disaster that destroyed the school’s dining hall in 2019.
Following the fire, students were forced to use an incomplete chapel building for both dining and assembly.
During a visit to the school’s graduation last week, it was evident that the new dining hall is at its final finishing stage.
This project represents a significant infrastructure development for the school.
The school’s Deputy Principal Stefano Fanakui confirmed to this paper that the million-dollar project is close to completion, requiring only final finishing touches.
It was originally expected to be completed in 2022. However, delays were caused by the national government’s financial focus on hosting the 17th Pacific Games in 2023.
With the successful conclusion of the games, the government, through the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development (MEHRD), has resumed work on the project.
The school family eagerly anticipates the completion of the dining hall, which will provide students with a proper facility to enjoy their meals.
Last week, the school graduated 324 students, some of whom will begin their national examinations next Tuesday.
