Solomon Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SICCI) recently represented Solomon Islands at a workshop organised by the Secretariat of Pacific Community (SPC) Food Systems workshop for the Melanesia subregional countries in Port Villa, Vanuatu on 15 October.
Other stakeholders also attending the event included the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAL) Ministry of Fisheries and Civil Society Organisation (CSO).
The workshop brought together public and private sector players from MSG countries – New Caledonia, PNG, Solomon Islands and Fiji for a high-level discussion of the revalidation and theory of exchange on the Pacific Islands Foods System Flagship program under SPC.
The three days’ workshop saw the engagement of all sectors in conducting the SWOT analysis of each countries system with the private sector emphasising the importance of having a healthy population is vital for the private sector.
SICCI welcomes the outcome of the meeting to transform and build a resilient food system for the MSG member countries and particularly Solomon Islands.
Solomon Islands private sector businesses mainly in the agribusiness sector are key players in our food system and supply chain.
SICCI look forward to work close with SIG counterpart MAL and Fisheries to drive the initiative to get private sector players into engaging in commercial sustainable agribusiness operations.
CEO Mr. James Dolarii acknowledges SPC for recognising the important role SICCI plays regionally to be partners in contributing and shaping strategies and approaches build and resilient system on regional level.
